Priorities and Fundamentals in Health
Avoid Chasing Symptoms and Find the Root Cause
When struggling with chronic health issues that never seem to have good treatment solutions, make sure your priorities and fundamentals are in good shape first.
I see many patients in my clinic who struggle with chronic health issues like migraines, frequent infections (i.e. UTI’s, colds, flu, sinus infections), other chronic pain like jaw pain, low back pain, neck pain, knee pain, foot pain, allergies, digestive discomfort or hormonal imbalances – PMS, infertility, thyroid issues, chronic fatigue and so on.
When evaluating a patient, if I start to hear about chronic health conditions, I prioritize signs and symptoms based on 4 fundamentals – sleep, diet/digestion, activity, rest.
If these 4 fundamentals are not healthy and supportive a patient will struggle to find effective and long lasting solutions to their health problems.
Are you sleeping well?
Do you eat healthy foods?
Do you have a good appetite? Do you overeat or skip meals?
Do you have any digestive discomfort?
Are you active or are you stuck in one position too often – sitting, standing, laying around?
How’s your stress levels? Be true to yourself about this question? Your mind will be protective and say everything is fine, I got this but your body shows the truth in the signs and symptoms you experience.
Instead of chasing symptoms focus on the fundamentals. Oftentimes, many signs and symptoms will disappear when your fundamentals are healthy. What signs and symptoms remains will bring clarity to any health professional in diagnosing and discovering the root cause of your health concerns.
